A Cowherd is a heroic character, who, with his horse, faced the hostile and wild nature of the Maremma Region. His work took place in large pens where herds grazed, which he had to check upon, move and recover from the thick maquis.
In order to keep traditions alive, every year they recall the famous legend that narrates about the competition between the American cow-boys and the inhabitants of Maremma.
Since that time the cowherds of the Maremma have had the fame of being the best in breaking wild horses.
This fascinating celebration takes place several times during summer season, in the “mandrioli” (pens) of the Talamone Camping Village.
