Above a promontory on the south point of the Mountains of Uccellina in a dominating position by the Tyrrhenian coast rises an ancient village of fishermen. This resort was first invaded by the Etrurians and then by the Romans.

La Rocca (the Fortress) was the mainstay which enclosed the village, there are still remains of it.

Garibaldi and his men landed here to stock up on arms and munitions on their way to conquering the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
